Duties:
The Editor of CNNPolitics.com is a dynamic leader, responsible for political coverage on the world’s largest news and information website as well as other digital channels including CNN Mobile and social media. He or she is a big thinker and a well-connected DC insider who can create vibrant, fast-paced, unique, multimedia political coverage and who will be a key member of The Best Political Team.

This person is an expert when it comes to political news — both daily and longer term strategic coverage — and will work with stakeholders and partners across the company to edit a section with smart coverage for a broad audience that includes general interest users as well as political junkies. CNNPolitics.com’s editor will be based in DC and will lead CNN.com’s team of political writers and producers.

This person is a collaborative force – they will be a part of the DC bureau, and part of the CNN Political Unit working side by side to plan daily and long-term coverage and to maximize cross-platform opportunities for coverage. He/she will similarly work alongside with the CNN wires team, leading the effort to create a vibrant, cohesive digital political powerhouse.

He or she will have a conversational and lively voice, and a truly national view, able to identify the issues of most interest and importance and proficient in leveraging CNN’s unique reach across the entire country.

The editor will use insightful reporting and analysis to help raise the profile of CNNPolitics.com and make it an important destination for those who want to know and understand what is happening in politics and government. He or she will file daily for the site, including blogging for CNN’s award-winning Political Ticker. He/she also will have strong relationships with other bloggers in the field to extend CNN’s reach as part of developing a full social media strategy.

He or she will coach and create timely, accurate, you-gotta-see-this coverage that leads the news cycle — stories, posts, videos and interactives to give the news depth and meaning. This editor knows that a story can take many forms — a tweet, a post, a video, an article, and interactive chart, etc — and will work closely with other members of the broader CNN.com team, including the multimedia, video and Opinion teams to ensure a stunning diversity of coverage and storytelling methods.

Duties:
The U.S. Editor will shape the strategy and also lead the daily effort to publish a dynamic, engaging, national news section The US editor will lead a small team dedicated to this section – he/she will coach and guide these writers/bloggers or producers, and work closely with many others within the CNN organization at large to break news, make news and create unique, compelling stories in a variety of formats. A key source of content and daily point of collaboration will be the network of CNN affiliates – shaping the strategy of how to best use hundreds of local stations across the nation producing stories in text and video format. This editor will be asked to outline a strategy of how we can better use this amazing resource and to operationalize it, working with people on CNN.com and the TV network. Also, other digital section producers, writers on the digital team and at the CNN Wire, video staff, design staff and colleagues on the TV side will be partners who can ensure coordinated coverage in text, video and photos for the stories that will likely be on the homepage of the world’s number one news and information site. We need someone who knows that a story can take any form and knows the best way to tell it – an article, a blog post, a video, an interactive graphic, an iReport, or a package of many of those things. An outward focus is a must – this editor will be using social media and reaching out to blogs to help spread the word about our work and to help keep us on the pulse. Partnerships are key – this editor will be working with biz side on potential content partners, contributors, and our affiliates. This editor will program the U.S. page of the site – often with help from others on the production side so providing clear guidance and direction in a collaborative manner is a must. There may be portions of the day where the US editor will be more hands on with the page, depending on staffing.
