This individual will oversee administrative matters and conduct editorial research for Global News Enterprises, a new company that is building the first US-based website devoted exclusively to international news. The site will be operational in early 2009 with correspondents in nearly 70 countries in every region of the world.
The ideal candidate will have superb organizational skills, possess an outgoing, energetic personality, be a strong writer and researcher, and have extensive familiarity with the internet. Knowledge of all office and presentation software is essential. Knowledge of other web-oriented software programs would be a distinct advantage.
This position provides administrative support to the Global News Chief Executive Officer and to its Executive Editor, assists in managing communications with our correspondents worldwide, supervises international travel planning, and handles some personnel issues. Candidate must be mature and discrete in the handling of confidential materials.
This candidate should have a record of experience either in journalism or office administration, or both. A college degree is required. Foreign language skills would be a decided plus.

Jack Hart, recently retired managing editor and writing coach at The Oregonian, will speak to a group of AAJA members on the writing process and techniques — all with the aim to make writing more efficient and less painful. Hart’s talk is the subject of his new book, “A Writer’s Coach: The Complete Guide to Writing Strategies That Work.” Hart edited two Pulitzer Prize winners at The Oregonian and was contributing editor to two others. He is also a lecturer at the 2008 Nieman Conference on Narrative Journalism in Boston next month.
